Technology Integration: Current and historic newspapers, digital primary sources, teaching with video, blogs, wikis, YouTube, with a focus on integrating technology to support learning while fostering new and emerging literacies: financial, historical, ICT, media, visual, media, writing.

UNDERSTANDING: Expansion has dynamic results including conflict, cultural assimilation, adaptation, and changes social roles.

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS: What opportunities and problems arise when countries expand? (social, political and economic).
