This Colloquium will provide a unique opportunity for Jeffco teachers because Thomas Andrews, a historian from the University of Colorado Denver, will demonstrate how a historian investigates a topic. By exploring evidence found in primary source documents, letter, memoirs, pictures, and videos for facts and clues, Thomas will use the Inquiry Process, as well as strategies utilized by historians to guide participants to discover, recreate, and interpret how the westward expansion precipitated various reform movements in U.S. history.
Day 1: Content Immersion
The topic will be explored by experts using primary and secondary sources with a focus on inquiry-based learning and 21st century learning standards.
Day 2: Technology Integration
Current and historic newspapers, digital primary sources, teaching with video, blogs, wikis, YouTube, with a focus on integrating technology to support learning while fostering new and emerging literacies: financial, historical, ICT, media, visual, media, writing.
