Jeffco Colloquium

This wiki will be used as a collaboration tool for the TPS Jeffco Colloquium.

 

Logistics

Event: Jeffco Colloquium

Date: Thursday & Friday, June 11 & 12

Time: 9:00am-3:00pm

Location: Room LM 127 in the Auraria Library

 

Theme: The Expanding Nation (1815-1850)

This Colloquium will provide a unique opportunity for Jeffco teachers because Thomas Andrews, a historian from the University of Colorado Denver, will demonstrate how a historian investigates a topic.  By exploring evidence found in primary source documents, letter, memoirs, pictures, and videos for facts and clues, Thomas will use the Inquiry Process, as well as strategies utilized by historians to guide participants to discover, recreate, and interpret how the westward expansion precipitated various reform movements in U.S. history.

 

Day 1: Content Immersion

The topic will be explored by experts using primary and secondary sources with a focus on inquiry-based learning and 21st century learning standards.

Day 2: Technology Integration

Current and historic newspapers, digital primary sources, teaching with video, blogs, wikis, YouTube, with a focus on integrating technology to support learning while fostering new and emerging literacies: financial, historical, ICT, media, visual, media, writing.  Suggestions for how to use Web 2.0 tools in the classroom as well as numerous technology examples will be provided.
